Something About Erika Brincat
Erika Brincat was born on the island of Malta in 1975. She is a graduate in international law who left the beaten path to explore other facets of life and work. The poetry writing started at an early age as a means of dealing with the inner processes of life, and expanded during a Writer’s Program, aged 21, at the University of Iowa City, USA. Five years later she put together her first collection of poetry, ‘Gateway to Infinity’, launched on June 13th 2001 at the Royal Malta Yacht Club, and winner of an International Biennale Literary Award.
After publishing her first book, she received a scholarship at the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, South India, where she studied Gandhian Philosophy and Peace Studies for a semester. During this time she had the opportunity to travel through the Western and Eastern coasts of South India, and explore several spiritual sites including Amma's ashram in Kollam, and Sri Aurobindo and The Mother’s ashram in Tamil Nadu.
In 2002, she returned to Malta and published a second book entitled: ‘The Bridge Between Heaven & Earth’, which covers esoteric poetry about Malta, Atlantis, Egypt and India, launched at the Valletta Wine Vaults in November 2003. Shortly after, she revisited India for a period of five months to live and work at the Osho Meditation Resort situated four hours away from Bombay in the city of Pune. After returning to Malta once more she completed her third collection of poetry with an Indian theme throughout, titled: ‘Leela’s Game’, dealing with her journey through India.
More recently she has completed a short story for children of all ages, inspired by a dream, and based on the American Indian Medicine Wheel and Power Animal Guides called ‘Sofia and The Flying Sofa’. Fully illustrated with 10 detailed drawings by the artist Debbie Cassar Wheelan, the book still awaits publication.
After working in Malta for two years as a freelance journalist on diverse topics such as Eco-friendly businesses, Holistic Health, Interior Decoration, the Arts, Music and Cultural Events for a number of publications, especially The Malta Today, one of Malta’s leading newspapers and their monthly magazine Malta Now, she is now returning to Pune in India to work for SD Fashion Studio which creates extremely elegant East-West fusion designer clothes and jewellery embellished with gems, embroidery, natural beads and more. However she will continue to contribute articles to 'Sky Life', Airmalta's new and revitalised Inflight Magazine.
In recent years she has also helped to publicise GAIAFEST, The Gaia Foundation's yearly holistic festival, and to create their upcoming online Environmental magazine.
Her work has also been published in a number of international magazines including ‘The Art of Healing’ (AU), 'Osho Times' (IND) and The Theosophical Journal (UK).

“What one may conclude with a degree of certainty is that Erika Brincat has in her tormented search to reveal her intent, energetically explored the myths which have crowded the collective psyche since time immemorial - an exercise that can not fail to shed light on the universal experience of living."

60 Second Interview about Erika Brincat
by Marie Benoit, for the Malta Independent
Sometimes in life you take small detours, and mine was a six year degree in Law and a Masters in International Law! Although those detours do come in handy sometimes! At the moment, I am focused on doing what I love the most which is to write poetry, articles and short stories, and I am moving back to India for a while to give working there a try. My first book of poetry ‘Gateway to Infinity’ brought unexpected satisfaction, and the second one is now thankfully on the way. ‘The Bridge Between Heaven & Earth’ shall be launched at the Castille Wine Vaults in Valletta on October the 25th, and available in a few leading bookstores such as Sapienza’s in Valletta. I also have an interest in all things hidden…..the mysteries of this intricate, strange web we call life!
